a closed mind, a requirement?
by peacefulpete ingalatians opens with the direction to not listen to opposing religious views.
it goes so far as to say that even if they (ostensibly paul and his party) or an angel from heaven presents another opinion, they must refuse to listen even then condemning the messenger as an enemy.
ironically this very obstinance is condemned among the jews in the bible, when they supposedly refused to listen to the new direction from the christians, jesus and even the angels who according to the story announced this new faith's arrival.

Neuromancer is actually a very good science fiction novel - one that Gibson wrote that helped define a new subgenre of sci-fi called cyberpunk (which is reflected in the Matrix series - without Gibson, no Matrix)
My description of cyberpunk is that it uses vividly descriptive writing and spends little time or words elaborating on technology in the background - it just puts weird things in there and lets you figure out what they are. In other words, Gibson assumes the readers are smart.
I had the pleasure of hearing Gibson do a reading at Powell's a few years back - really neat guy. His recent book, however, seems no weirder than the reality around me - maybe we have

What resurrects, the person or a perfect copy?
by JH ini remember my boss asking me once this question, since he knew i was a witness.
he asked, "what resurrects, the body, the soul, what?.
he knew that witnesses believe in the resurrection of the dead on earth, in a different physical body during the millennium.. i told him that it won't be the same physical body, and maybe won't be identical, but it's the same person.

It has come to my attention that my use of the word "childish" above, towards the behavior of AlanF and Maverick, was offensive in a manner that I did not intend, and that it caused unneeded and unintended offense.
I apologize for that, it was irresponsible communication on my part. Better words could have been chosen to communicate the issue at hand. My apologies to all concerned, and to the readers.

Who do I not like from the past and present?
There are people in the world I don't like...or whose actions I consistently tend not to agree with, or which I tend not to respect. I do my best to keep it a moment-by-moment thing - I don't think that putting that in writing and displaying it to the world is a positive act.
I do my best to separate actions from individuals...although the Bush administration makes that difficult...

Yeah, I finally got a radio when I was like 16.
I didn't develop any musical tastes or knowledge until at 19 I got a job in a stereo store.
Of course, my sis was agitating for her own landline...

What are you talking about? Are you asking how to use the WTS structure to find truth? Are you wanting to know how the elder arrangement adn the judical committee arrangement can help bring things into the light of day?
Or are you asking about something easy - like peace in the Middle East?

Based on my friend's experiences as parents, it seems to be a great tool for safety and keeping in touch. She might get busted text-messaging in class and lose it... but oh well.
You might want to get a prepaid phone, and require her to budget the minutes each month - hide a lesson in there. :)

Should The Age Of Consent Be Lowered To 13?
by Englishman inat present the age of consent in the uk is 16. .
in spain the age of consent is 13. .
the argument i have heard put forward is that a legal age of consent has little effect on younger people.

Euphemism, your comment about "most boys' first experience" being with an older female - I am not agreeing or disagreeing, but I would be fascinated to know if you have any citations or references for that. It's true for me personally, but I hesitate to project that over the population at large...
Somethihg worth remembering (which Simon alluded to) is that there's what we would prefer, and there's what the kids are gonna do regardless. The law ain't gonna keep their pants on - but it might serve to keep the adults out of their pants, and that's a worthy goal.
Age at first intercourse is similar in the US and five other countries: Canada, England, France, the Netherlands, and Sweden, yet all those countries have teen pregnancy rates that are at least less than half the US rate.(9) Sex education in these other countries is based on the following components: a policy explicitly favoring sex education; openness about sex; consistent messages throughout society; and access to contraception.
